the local was formed as a brother-sister duo in 2005, when Steph (piano) and Paul (guitar) began playing together in the Hamilton area.  Since then, they have been playing at several venues across the GTA.

Since both Steph and Paul are songwriters, the local features two singers.  Their sets include original music from both artists, as well as a few favourite cover tunes.  They have many musical influences spanning many decades which leads them to write and choose music in a variety of styles.  Their music is mostly in the pop, alternative, and folk genres.

the local enjoy a spirit of sharing, and love being introduced to and promoting other artist's work.  We love to join up with other "up and coming" bands and artists for shows and festivals.
